Pakistan has condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement advocating for a Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar emphasized support for Saudi sovereignty and expressed commitment to Palestinian rights during discussions with Saudi officials. Calls have been made for urgent meetings among Islamic nations to address the Gaza situation following widespread criticism of these proposals.
Pakistan has officially denounced Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent remarks suggesting the establishment of a Palestinian state within Saudi Arabia. In a phone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar criticized Netanyahu’s comments as “irresponsible and provocative” and expressed Pakistan’s steadfast support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as its commitment to the Palestinian cause.
During the discussion, the Saudi Foreign Minister expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s “consistent and time-tested support” regarding the sanctity and integrity of the Kingdom. Additionally, both ministers concurred on the necessity to convene an urgent extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s foreign ministers to address the ongoing situation in Gaza.
In a distinct statement, Foreign Minister Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s conviction that the Palestinian people hold an inherent right to establish an independent state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al Quds Al Sharif as its capital. He condemned any suggestions seeking to displace Palestinians from their historical homeland as violations of international law and UN resolutions.
Netanyahu had previously stated, “The Saudis can create a Palestinian state in Saudi Arabia; they have a lot of land over there,” which was met with significant backlash from Palestinians, Arab nations, and various global stakeholders. This came in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal regarding the relocation of Palestinians, which also drew widespread condemnation.
Pakistan’s condemnation of Netanyahu’s remarks highlights its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the principle of territorial integrity for Saudi Arabia. The discussions between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia further emphasize the urgency of addressing the crisis in Gaza, reflecting a unified stance among Islamic nations against proposals perceived as undermining Palestinian rights.
