President Disanayake Engages with Japanese Ambassador on Collaboration Opportunities

President Anura Kumara Disanayake met this morning with the Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, H. E. Mr. Akio Isomata, at the Presidential Secretariat. During their meeting, the Ambassador extended an official invitation to President Disanayake to visit Japan and expressed gratitude for the new government’s policy framework.

The Ambassador informed President Disanayake about Japan’s efforts to include Sri Lanka in a newly launched security cooperation assistance program. The two officials engaged in extensive discussions regarding the joint Japan-Switzerland-South Africa initiative aimed at promoting national reconciliation in northern communities affected by the 30-year conflict. They also evaluated the current status of Japanese investments in Sri Lanka.

Furthermore, discussions included the progress of digital economic initiatives and investments in airport infrastructure. Mr. Isomata reiterated Japan’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s Digital Transformation Program, articulating Japan’s intentions to invest in port and aviation projects, along with digitalization efforts in Sri Lanka.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including Dr. Duminda Hulangamuwa, the President’s Advisor on Economic and Financial Affairs, along with senior representatives from the Japanese embassy. The Presidential Media Division will disseminate details related to the President’s vision and initiatives through various media channels which will contribute to maintaining transparent communication with the public.

President Disanayake’s meeting with the Japanese Ambassador highlighted the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between Sri Lanka and Japan. The discussions focused on security cooperation, investment opportunities, and digital transformation initiatives.
