Escalation of Israeli Military Operations in Nur Shams Refugee Camp During Ramadan

Israeli bulldozers are demolishing homes in the Nur Shams refugee camp as part of military operations, displacing over 5,500 individuals amid escalating tensions in the region. Families received minimal notice to evacuate their homes, while military raids continue to terrorize local residents, enforcing a humanitarian crisis.

Israeli military bulldozers commenced the demolition of homes and residential buildings in the Nur Shams refugee camp, located east of Tulkarm, on Saturday. As reported by the official news agency Wafa, heavy “D10” bulldozers were deployed in the camp early that morning, initiating demolition activities near the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque, accompanied by low-flying reconnaissance aircraft conducting aerial surveillance.

This escalation was preceded by a notification issued by Israeli authorities five days prior, regarding the removal of 11 homes to facilitate the construction of a roadway from the camp square to the Al-Mansheya neighborhood. The affected families include the Yusufs, Jibalis, Mar’is, Abu Shlbaiahs, Iranis, Shihabs, Yunises, and Ghannams.

On the second day following the demolition notice, Israeli forces provided homeowners with a mere three hours to evacuate their possessions from their properties. Concurrently, the forces raided homes in the Jabal Al-Nasr neighborhood, continuing from the previous night’s operations. Residents faced intimidation tactics, with only minutes given to vacate while live ammunition and sound bombs were employed to instill fear.

Amid the ongoing Israeli military aggression, which has now persisted for 21 consecutive days, significant displacement has occurred within the camp. This has predominantly affected women, children, the elderly, and the sick, with many fleeing to shelters and relatives’ homes in Tulkarm city and surrounding areas. The displacement concentrated in neighborhoods such as Al-Mansheya, Al-Mas’akh, Jabal Al-Nasr, and Al-Salihyeen, impacting over 5,500 individuals.

This recent escalation represents the continuation of a broader campaign against the city and its refugee camps, now in its 33rd consecutive day. The Israeli military has augmented its presence with numerous vehicles, bulldozers, and infantry units, effectively imposing a siege on both the Tulkarm and Nur Shams camps. Several residential buildings have been occupied and repurposed as military outposts for operational use.

In summary, the Israeli military’s demolition of homes in the Nur Shams refugee camp and the ongoing military aggression have resulted in significant displacement and hardship for the residents. With heightened military presence and forced evacuations, many families are facing increased vulnerability as they seek shelter and assistance in the surrounding areas.
