Rwanda’s producer prices increased by 0.6% year-on-year in January 2025, following a 0.2% rise in December. This marks two months of consecutive growth, largely due to manufacturing and mining price increases. The monthly change showed a rise of 0.8% after a decline in December.
In January 2025, Rwanda experienced a 0.6% year-on-year increase in producer prices, following a modest rise of 0.2% in the preceding month. This growth signifies the second consecutive month of rising producer prices, primarily driven by increases in manufacturing prices, which rose by 0.6% compared to December’s 0.1% rise, alongside a slight decrease in mining and quarrying, which registered a growth of 1.1% from 1.2% previously.
Certain sectors, including electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply as well as water supply, sewerage, waste management, and information and communication activities, showed no significant changes during this period. In a monthly context, producer prices saw an increase of 0.8% in January, effectively reversing a 0.5% decline noted in December.
In summary, Rwanda’s producer prices rose for the second month in a row in January 2025, marking a year-on-year increase of 0.6%. This uptick is principally attributed to improvements in the manufacturing sector. While some sectors remained stable, the monthly rebound from December’s downturn indicates a potential positive trend in the country’s economic activities.
