Muscat recently hosted a significant event as part of Microsoft’s global AI Tour, taking place at the St Regis Hotel. This gathering, which included industry leaders, developers, and government officials, aimed to demonstrate how Artificial Intelligence is influencing Oman’s digital economy. Microsoft reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Sultanate’s Vision 2040 by introducing innovative AI solutions designed to enhance various sectors.

Keynote speakers at the event included prominent Microsoft executives, such as Samer Abu-Ltaif, President of Microsoft EMEA; Charles Nahas, Regional General Manager for Microsoft Middle East; and Harry Kambanis, Business Group Leader for Business Applications in Central and Eastern Europe. Mr. Abu-Ltaif emphasized the importance of Oman’s technological progress and mentioned Microsoft’s longstanding dedication to the nation’s growth, stating its intention to contribute to sustainable development through advanced cloud and AI services.

Sheikh Saif Hilal al Hosni, Microsoft’s Country Manager for Oman and Bahrain, pointed out the growing recognition of AI as a means for Omani businesses to enhance efficiency and competitiveness. He affirmed Microsoft’s leadership in enabling organizations to utilize breakthrough AI advancements, thereby strengthening its ongoing collaborations with local enterprises to shape Oman’s digital future.

The event highlighted practical applications of AI via Microsoft’s partnerships with various Omani organizations. For instance, the Ministry of Education has implemented an AI-driven chatbot for quick information access and is utilizing Microsoft Copilot to improve educational practices. Additionally, the University of Technology and Applied Sciences employs AI for course content development, while Omantel enhances its operations and cybersecurity using Microsoft 365 Copilot solutions. OQ has also integrated AI for more efficient candidate screenings.

In sharing insights, Ahmed Al Habib, Head of IT at Oman Housing Bank, remarked on the efficiency gained through Microsoft 365 Copilot, stating, “AI is not just a futuristic tool; it is already transforming the way we work. Microsoft’s AI solutions have significantly improved our operational efficiency.”

To recognize local achievements, the AI Tour in Muscat presented the AI Excellence Awards, celebrating organizations that have successfully adopted AI-driven solutions, including the Ministry of Education, National Centre for Statistics and Information, and Omantel, among others. These honors highlighted significant contributions to AI innovation across various sectors.

Additionally, attendees participated in in-depth sessions featuring Microsoft’s flagship tools such as Microsoft Copilot and Copilot Agents, which aim to enhance workplace productivity. The discussions also addressed Responsible AI practices, underscoring Microsoft’s pledge to uphold ethical standards in AI development. Attendees had the opportunity to experience the capabilities of Microsoft Surface AI PCs and Copilot+ PCs, which integrate AI functionalities to boost creativity and efficiency.
