Ghana offers the lowest Hajj pilgrimage fare in the sub-region at $4,100 (GHS62,000). Neighboring countries charge over $5,000. The government will airlift 5,000 pilgrims only, with a payment deadline of March 13. Collins Dauda emphasized the importance of managing payments effectively for a smooth pilgrimage experience.
The Chairman of the Hajj Board, Mr. Collins Dauda, announced that Ghana offers the lowest fare for the Hajj pilgrimage among neighboring countries. The fare for pilgrims is set at $4,100, which translates to GHS62,000, considerably less than the rates charged by Senegal, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, and Nigeria, all of which exceed $5,000.
During a recent media engagement, Mr. Dauda indicated that there are no current plans by the government to lower the fare further. He stated, “The fare we have announced is GHS62,000. But you must know that in the sub-region, Ghana’s fare is the cheapest.” He emphasized that while the fare is competitive, any future adjustments would depend on specific circumstances.
Mr. Dauda also noted that the government has established a deadline of March 13 for the payment of Hajj fares. In order to ensure a smooth pilgrimage experience, the government will exclusively airlift 5,000 pilgrims this year. Consequently, agents have been cautioned to manage payments effectively to avoid any issues regarding eligibility for the pilgrimage.
He expressed the importance of monitoring the payments made by pilgrims. “We are doing 5000 pilgrims and so we are monitoring the payments and if after getting the 5000, we will not accept money from anyone,” he stated, highlighting the intention to prevent any last-minute complications for prospective pilgrims.
In summary, Ghana’s Hajj fare of GHS62,000 stands as the most economical option in the sub-region. The government has set limits on the number of pilgrims to ensure a controlled and efficient process. Mr. Collins Dauda has made it clear that the fare is unlikely to decrease further, and agents are urged to verify the status of potential pilgrims to avoid complications.
