The statement, articulated by Canadian ministers including Mélanie Joly, Ahmed Hussen, and Mary Ng, was described by Rwanda as defamatory and unacceptable. Additionally, it alleged that the Rwandan Defence Force has been active in the DRC and has supported the M23 group, leading to imposed sanctions by Canada.
Rwanda’s official response condemned Canada’s actions, arguing that the country cannot endorse regional peace efforts while simultaneously attributing all violations to Rwanda.
