Egypt and Armenia Strengthen Health Sector Cooperation Opportunities

Egypt and Armenia are exploring cooperation in the health sector, focusing on enhancing bilateral agreements, medical training, and pharmaceutical trade. Plans include visits for health delegations and discussions on health insurance collaboration. Both nations aim to strengthen their ties for mutual health benefits.

In a recent meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar engaged with Armen Sarkissian, the Ambassador of Armenia to Cairo, to discuss enhancing cooperation within the healthcare sector. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the spokesperson for the Ministry, indicated that both parties are committed to strengthening bilateral ties for the welfare of their populations.

A central theme of their discussion was the modernization and reactivation of existing agreements between the health ministries of Egypt and Armenia. The two countries explored potential avenues for training programs and medical expertise exchanges to build capacity in the healthcare sector effectively.

Inquiries were made regarding the export of Egyptian medicines to Armenia, alongside plans to establish bilateral agreements to ease trade operations in pharmaceuticals and vaccines. An invitation was also extended for the Armenian delegation to visit the Egyptian Drug Authority, allowing them to understand the regulatory framework that supports the registration and export of pharmaceutical products, particularly through the Egyptian company Vacsera.

Furthering their partnership, Minister Abdel Ghaffar proposed a field visit for the Armenian ambassador to explore Egyptian pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, showcasing the sector’s advanced technologies. The meeting also spotlighted Armenia’s progress in health insurance, leading to a proposal for an Armenian health insurance delegation to visit Egypt to learn about the operational challenges and strategies in managing its health insurance system.

Additionally, strategies for a July visit involving a delegation of Egyptian pharmaceutical manufacturers and healthcare professionals to Armenia were discussed. This initiative aims to discover business opportunities, enhance cooperation between Egyptian firms and Armenian medical centers, and promote joint health investments.

Ambassador Sarkissian highlighted Armenia’s enthusiasm for collaborative efforts with Egypt in various healthcare fields, particularly in pharmaceuticals and medical training. He also relayed an official invitation from the Armenian Minister of Health for Minister Abdel Ghaffar to visit Armenia to expand joint health initiatives further.

The meeting between Egyptian and Armenian delegates marked a significant step towards bolstering collaboration in the health sector through several proposed initiatives. Key discussions focused on enhancing bilateral agreements, sharing medical expertise, and facilitating trade in pharmaceuticals. Both nations express a strong commitment to deepen their partnership, which could pave the way for improved healthcare solutions and joint investments.
