European Parliament Delegation Engages with UAE’s National Human Rights Institution

On February 28, 2025, a European Parliament delegation visited the NHRI in Abu Dhabi to discuss the UAE’s advancements in human rights. They commended the NHRI’s efforts in promoting human rights and acknowledged its international engagement. NHRI leaders emphasized their commitment to enhancing the UAE’s global reputation concerning human rights standards.

On February 28, 2025, a high-level delegation from the European Parliament visited the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) in Abu Dhabi. They were briefed on the UAE’s advancements in human rights and acknowledged the institution’s initiatives to foster a culture of human rights and its strategic engagements both regionally and internationally.

Maqsoud Kruse, Chairperson of the NHRI, along with Secretary-General Dr. Saeed Al Ghufli, welcomed the delegation. Kruse stated that this visit underscores the significance that international institutions attach to the NHRI’s efforts in promoting and safeguarding human rights.

Kruse highlighted the UAE’s commitment to developing policies that enhance its reputation as a leader in respecting human rights and adhering to international standards. The delegation led by European Parliament Chairperson Reinhold Lopatka included notable members such as Vice-President Abir Al-Sahlani and several other representatives from Spain and Sweden.

This visit marks the second engagement by a European Parliament delegation, following a similar visit in 2022, thus illustrating the NHRI’s growing global recognition and its dedication to transparency and collaboration with international partners in the human rights domain.
