PM Shehbaz Sharif Commends Trump for Acknowledging Pakistan’s Anti-Terrorism Efforts

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for recognizing Pakistan’s counter-terrorism contributions, particularly after the capture of Shareefullah, a key figure in the 2021 Kabul airport attack. Sharif affirmed Pakistan’s resolve against terrorism and its partnership with the United States for regional stability. Trump expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s cooperation while addressing criticisms regarding the Afghanistan withdrawal.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his appreciation to U.S. President Donald Trump for acknowledging Pakistan’s commitment to counter-terrorism in Afghanistan. In a statement on his X handle, he emphasized that Pakistan would continue to collaborate closely with the United States to promote regional stability.

His remarks followed President Trump’s announcement about capturing Shareefullah, the alleged top terrorist involved in the 2021 Kabul airport bombing, which resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. service members and around 170 Afghans fleeing from a Taliban takeover.

Prime Minister Sharif noted that Shareefullah, a prominent commander of Daesh, had been detained in a well-coordinated operation at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. He reiterated Pakistan’s ongoing fight against terrorism, highlighting the nation’s sacrifices, which include the loss of over 80,000 citizens and soldiers in these efforts.

In a speech to Congress, President Trump celebrated the apprehension of Shareefullah, describing it as a significant step for the families affected by the bombing. He also criticized the previous administration’s approach to the Afghanistan withdrawal, referring to it as severely mishandled.

According to reports, Pakistani authorities arrested the Daesh commander base on CIA intelligence, and he is expected to be transferred to the United States. An American official affirmed that Shareefullah was instrumental in the Abbey Gate bombing, prompting President Trump’s directive to prioritize capturing those responsible.

Court documents reveal that Sharifullah was involved with Daesh-K since 2016 and played a central role in planning the bombing. He conducted reconnaissance around Hamid Karzai International Airport to facilitate the attack while maintaining communications with other Daesh-K members.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has commended President Trump’s recognition of Pakistan’s anti-terrorism efforts, particularly highlighted by the apprehension of a key terrorist involved in the Kabul airport attack. This incident illustrates Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to combat terrorism and maintain regional stability, promising continued partnership with the United States. Furthermore, President Trump’s remarks underscore the intricate dynamics of U.S.-Pakistan relations in addressing terrorism.
