On Tuesday, the Saudi Cabinet expressed its solid support for the resolutions made during the extraordinary Arab League summit, which was held in Cairo. The summit strongly opposed the displacement of Palestinians and aimed to address the severe consequences of ongoing conflict. In reaffirming the Palestinian right to self-determination, the Cabinet emphasized the establishment of an independent state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The summit’s final declaration advocated for deploying an international protection and peacekeeping force in Palestinian territories while aligning with a plan proposed by Egypt concerning Gaza, developed in close cooperation with both Palestine and other Arab nations. The Cabinet reiterated the necessity of achieving a just and comprehensive peace that addresses the rights of Palestinians thoroughly.
During the weekly session, chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, ministers condemned Israel’s actions to halt humanitarian aid into Gaza, urging the international community to take responsibility for these violations. They called for the activation of international accountability mechanisms to ensure sustainable assistance access for those in need.
Additionally, the Cabinet reviewed a joint statement issued following President Joseph Aoun’s recent visit to Riyadh, which underlined the importance of implementing the Taif Agreement known for ending Lebanon’s civil war and ensuring international resolutions are respected. The statement emphasized Lebanon’s territorial sovereignty and the necessity of limiting weaponry to the governmental forces while advocating for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanese land.
President Aoun’s visit facilitated discussions aimed at bolstering bilateral ties between Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. Both leaders sought solutions to challenges impacting the resumption of Lebanese exports to Saudi Arabia and explored measures to ease Saudi citizens’ travel to Lebanon. Their talks reaffirmed their commitment to facilitating Lebanon’s economic recovery and implementing necessary reforms in line with international standards.
In a separate matter, the Cabinet reiterated its steadfast support for social services and national initiatives aimed at providing suitable housing for eligible families. The Cabinet commended the collaborative efforts between government entities, private sectors, and community members aligned with the Jood Regions campaign, initiated during Ramadan 2024, to deliver over 10,000 housing units to those in need across the country’s 13 provinces.
King Salman and the Crown Prince have generously contributed a total of SR150 million ($40 million) to the current phase of the Jood Regions campaign, launched at the beginning of this year’s Ramadan. The Cabinet also examined the advancement of critical development projects designed to foster comprehensive growth across the Kingdom.
In summary, the Saudi Cabinet reaffirmed its support for Palestinian rights and humanitarian efforts in Gaza while addressing regional stability through discussions with Lebanon’s President Aoun.
