North Korea has deployed an additional 3,500 troops to Russia, following a previous deployment earlier this year. These troops are currently training in Russia ahead of their possible involvement in Ukraine. Reports indicate significant casualties among North Korean forces, with both deaths and injuries recorded.
Recent reports reveal that North Korea has sent an additional 3,500 troops to Russia, as confirmed by a South Korean lawmaker. This troop deployment precedes the anticipated dispatch to Ukraine and follows the earlier dispatch of 1,500 soldiers between January and February to fill the gaps left by casualties among the original 11,000 troops sent to Kursk in October.
According to lawmaker Yu, these soldiers are currently undergoing field adaptation training across five sites in Russia’s Far East, with indications of a potential third troop deployment. This information was shared by Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine’s defense intelligence, during a briefing in Ukraine from February 23 to 26.
The ongoing conflict has resulted in significant losses, with approximately 400 North Korean soldiers reported to have died in action. Furthermore, of the 3,600 wounded, only 300 have managed to return to the front lines after recovery, illustrating the toll of the combat engagements.
The recent increase in North Korean troop deployments to Russia underscores the ongoing military collaboration between North Korea and Russia amid the war in Ukraine. With substantial casualties reported, the situation remains critical, prompting discussions around psychological warfare tactics used by Ukrainian forces against North Korean soldiers.
