Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka criticized the MoU signed by President Ruto and Raila Odinga, labeling it a betrayal of Kenyans. He affirmed the commitment of the opposition to defend citizens’ rights at the People’s Dialogue Forum. Despite the MoU’s objectives to address national issues, significant opposition from figures like Senator Okiya Omtatah suggests contention surrounding its implementation.
Wiper leader Mr. Kalonzo Musyoka has publicly denounced the recent cooperation agreement between President William Ruto and ODM leader Mr. Raila Odinga, branding it a betrayal of the citizens of Kenya. His remarks followed the unveiling of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that the two leaders signed last Friday. Mr. Musyoka asserted that the current opposition coalition remains committed to advocating for the people’s rights.
He expressed his discontent through a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, stating, “What has come out of KICC today is the biggest betrayal of Kenyans. The people’s loyal coalition will never trade its principles for temporary comfort.” He also highlighted his ongoing involvement in the People’s Dialogue Forum at Uhuru Park, reaffirming the opposition’s role in defending Kenyan interests.
During his visit to the forum, Mr. Musyoka engaged with various participants, including leaders from civil society, who have been addressing critical national issues since the forum commenced. Notably, former Chief Justice Mr. David Maraga has been a prominent figure, lending his voice to discussions that will conclude this Saturday. Last month, Mr. Musyoka advised Mr. Raila not to align with the government and instead join the opposition.
Moreover, former Deputy President Mr. Rigathi Gachagua, a significant supporter of the opposition, cautioned Mr. Raila against any collaborations with President Ruto. In response, during his tour in Wajir County, Mr. Raila rebuffed the notion of partnering with Mr. Gachagua, referencing past comments about established traps meant to undermine his progress towards State House.
The MoU signed by Mr. Ruto and Mr. Raila outlines their commitment to resolving at least ten important national challenges, prominently including efforts to combat corruption. Additionally, they have advocated for the complete execution of the Nadco report, which resulted from bipartisan discussions at Bomas of Kenya in 2023.
However, the implementation of the Nadco report has faced stark opposition from Busia Senator Mr. Okiya Omtatah, who firmly rejected its execution. He declared at the People’s Dialogue Forum, “Anybody supporting Nadco must be removed from public life. Raila Odinga and William Ruto have declared war on the future of this country.”
In conclusion, Mr. Kalonzo Musyoka has voiced strong opposition to the cooperation agreement between President Ruto and Mr. Raila Odinga, deeming it a significant betrayal of Kenyan citizens. Amid steadfast claims of loyalty to the people, he continues to advocate for the rights and interests of the citizens through active participation in national forums. Meanwhile, the controversial MoU addresses critical issues but has sparked substantial dissent among opposition figures.
