Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Mauritius on March 11-12 to attend the 57th National Day celebrations as the guest of honour. His trip marks an important diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening India-Mauritius relations, with a focus on various cooperation areas. He will meet with the President and Prime Minister of Mauritius during his visit, highlighting the significance of this partnership.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Mauritius on March 11-12 to serve as the guest of honour at the 57th National Day celebrations. This announcement was made by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The celebrations are poised to take place on March 12, and a contingent from the Indian Armed Forces, along with an Indian Navy ship, will also participate.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will engage with key leaders in Mauritius, including a meeting with the President and the Prime Minister. His last visit to the island nation occurred in 2015. Recently, Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam informed the nation’s parliament about Modi’s impending arrival, expressing pride in hosting such a distinguished guest.

Ramgoolam highlighted the significance of Modi’s visit, noting it demonstrates the solid relationship between both nations, despite Modi’s busy schedule with recent trips to Paris and the United States. Prime Minister Modi affirmed New Delhi’s commitment to the long-standing partnership with Mauritius, referring to it as “special” and “unique.”

In a previous visit in July 2024, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged in discussions in Mauritius with both the former PM Pravind Kumar Jugnauth and Mr. Ramgoolam. The talks centered on enhancing bilateral ties in areas such as development cooperation, defense, maritime affairs, economic exchanges, and cultural connections. During this visit, 12 community development projects in sectors like infrastructure and healthcare were inaugurated through virtual means.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mauritius as the guest of honour for the 57th National Day showcases the deep-rooted relationship between India and Mauritius. The engagement will include meetings with Mauritian leadership and military participation, reinforcing diplomatic and cultural ties. This visit underscores India’s commitment to supporting Mauritius in various development initiatives.
