PM Modi was warmly greeted by the Indian community in Mauritius shortly after his arrival. Members of the diaspora honored him with a traditional Bihari performance known as Geet Gawai. This musical ensemble, originating from the Bhojpuri region in India, underscores the rich cultural heritage shared with Mauritius. Notably, Geet Gawai holds a place on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since December 2016.

Throughout his visit, PM Modi is scheduled to inaugurate over 20 projects financed by India, which encompass capacity building initiatives and community-linked infrastructure. Additionally, he will unveil significant new infrastructure projects designed to bolster democracy in Mauritius. Key highlights include the joint inauguration of the Civil Services College building, built at approximately $4.75 million, alongside the e-inauguration of an Area Health Centre and 20 community projects, which primarily focus on enhancing sports infrastructure and public health.
