Guyana Under-15 Cricket Team to Compete Under Richard Ramdeholl’s Captaincy

Richard Ramdeholl will captain the Guyana Under-15 team in the Cricket West Indies Under-15 Championship, with Brandon Henry as vice-captain. The squad features 10 newcomers and players returning from last year’s team, aiming for success after a strong showing in the Inter-County competition. The overall strength of the squad and the strategic inclusion of both spin and pace bowlers enhances their prospects for the tournament.

Richard Ramdeholl will lead the Guyana Under-15 squad in the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-15, 50-over Championship, scheduled for April 13-24 in Antigua. The Guyana Cricket Board announced the 14-member team, with Brandon Henry appointed as vice-captain. Ramdeholl previously captained Berbice to an unbeaten run in the Inter-County competition, while Henry led Demerara to a third-place finish.

The squad also includes returning players Justin Dowlin and Jathneil Nurse, both from Essequibo. The complete squad is composed of:
– Justin Dowlin
– Lomar Seecharran
– Luke Amsterdam
– Shahid Ramzan
– Arif Bacchus
– Richard Ramdeholl
– Nathaniel Ramsammy
– Jathniel Nurse
– Usain Fredericks
– Brandon Henry
– Reyaz Latif
– Patrice Fraser
– Rafael McKenzie
– Prosper Jacobus.

The reserves consist of:
– Khush Seegobin
– Joshua Thomas
– Bomesh Lall

Yeuraj Khemraj has been appointed as Coach, while Yogeshwar Lall serves as the Manager.

During the Inter-County competition, Brandon Henry was the leading run-scorer with a total of 92 runs, while Shahid Ramzan was impressive, scoring 91 runs, including a top score of 51 against Essequibo. Notably, three players achieved half-centuries: Justin Dowlin (55), Prosper Jacobus (53*), and Ramzan.

Bacchus and Seecharran showed consistent performance, scoring 89 and 78 runs, respectively. Dowlin contributed significantly with an additional 87 runs. Leg-spinner Reyaz Latif stood out as the joint-leading wicket-taker, capturing nine wickets, including his best of 7-20 against the Select XI, marking a notable five-wicket haul.

Joshua Thomas, a left-arm ‘chinaman’ bowler, is on standby, also taking nine wickets. Ramdeholl followed closely with eight wickets. Nurse earned his selection through vital performances, strengthening the spin attack alongside Ramdeholl, Henry, and Latif. The squad has been fortified with a four-prong pace attack consisting of Patrice Fraser, Rafael McKenzie, Jacobus, and Fredericks in a tournament where bonus points could influence the championship outcome.

Guyana’s last regional Under-15 championship victory was in 2015 under the captaincy of Ashmead Nedd.

Richard Ramdeholl’s appointment as captain of the Guyana Under-15 squad highlights his leadership experience and the team’s strong prospects heading into the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-15 Championship. The inclusion of seasoned players alongside newcomers signifies a strategic approach to enhance the team’s performance. As the tournament approaches, the emphasis on balanced batting and bowling units could prove pivotal in achieving the championship goal.
