The Nigeria Football Federation has received positive news regarding the potential national team inclusion of SC Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu. Germany’s national team coach, Julian Nagelsmann, announced his squad for the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals against Italy, notably excluding Atubolu from the list of 23 players selected for this significant match-up.

Noah Atubolu has significantly impressed this season, maintaining a remarkable streak of six consecutive clean sheets in the Bundesliga. Recently, he achieved a milestone by becoming the first Freiburg goalkeeper to reach 510 minutes without conceding, surpassing the record of club legend Richard Golz from the 2001-2002 season.

Despite being on Nagelsmann’s radar before the squad announcement, Atubolu was omitted in favor of other goalkeepers: Oliver Baumann from TSG Hoffenheim, Alexander Nübel from VfB Stuttgart, and Stefan Ortega Moreno from Manchester City. Had Atubolu been included and debuted against Italy, he would have been bound to represent Germany, the country of his birth.

Atubolu, a dual-national, has previously played for Germany at the U17, U19, and U20 levels and has appeared in fifteen matches for the U21 team since his debut during a European Championship qualifier in March 2022 against Latvia.
