Karia Elected to CAF Executive Committee, Aims to Boost CECAFA Football

Wallace Karia, President of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), has been elected to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee, becoming the third Tanzanian to hold this position. Karia was elected unopposed to represent the CECAFA Zone during the CAF General Assembly held at the Marriot Mena House Hotel in Cairo. Previous Tanzanian members of the CAF Executive Committee are Said El Maamry and Leodegar Tenga.

Word of Karia’s election was met with enthusiasm, as he expressed gratitude for the support of CECAFA members. He stated his intention to improve the competitiveness of teams in the CECAFA Zone, aiming for qualification in major tournaments. Karia acknowledged, “We have been improving on the curve, but we can still do better and as a leader I am going to further push for this to happen.”

Within this General Assembly, Dr. Patrice Motsepe was re-elected unopposed as CAF President. Other notable elections included Samuel Eto’o of Cameroon representing the UNIFFAC Zone, alongside other officials from different zones, reflecting a united front for African football. In other news, Dr. Motsepe held a meeting with CECAFA members focusing on developmental issues in African football.
