Yango Creates Over 6,000 Jobs in Cameroon with Latest Expansion

Yango has created over 6,000 jobs in Cameroon since 2021, primarily through partnerships with local transport companies. The company has expanded its services to Bafoussam, aiming to enhance affordable transport solutions. Alongside this expansion, Yango plans to introduce new services and strengthen its integration with digital financial solutions as it seeks to solidify its role in the Cameroonian transport sector.

Yango, the ride-hailing service owned by Yandex, has reportedly created over 6,000 jobs in Cameroon since its launch in 2021. Clovis Pilla, Yango’s Country Manager, emphasized that the platform serves as more than just an app; it is instrumental in advancing the digital and economic landscape of Cameroon. Pilla stated, “More than 150 Cameroonian transport companies work with us, creating even more job opportunities.”

Currently operational in Douala and Yaoundé, Yango expanded its services to Bafoussam on March 5, 2025. This expansion aims to provide “efficient and affordable” transport solutions while enhancing mobility and creating new job opportunities in the West region. The company is committed to contributing to economic growth through its services.

Yango’s launch in Bafoussam is merely the beginning of its broader expansion strategy. The company has renewed its operating license for five additional years, planning to reach more cities and introduce new services. Pilla mentioned, “Over the next five years, we plan to expand to additional cities, introduce new services, and strengthen our integration with digital financial solutions.”

Since its establishment nearly four years ago, Yango has attracted over 150,000 active monthly users among Cameroonians. However, the company faced regulatory challenges, including a suspension of services by the Minister of Transport in February 2023, which was lifted seven months later. Now fully operational, Yango aims to solidify its position in Cameroon’s transport sector by providing reliable services that improve urban mobility.

Overall, Yango’s efforts reflect its ambition to be a significant contributor to Cameroon’s transport infrastructure, showcasing the strong potential within the country. Operating in 20 countries worldwide, Yango seeks to enhance urban mobility in nations where public transport systems often lack sufficient reliability and efficiency.

In conclusion, Yango’s establishment in Cameroon has resulted in the creation of over 6,000 jobs, emphasizing its role in economic and digital development. The company’s recent expansion into Bafoussam marks an essential milestone in its broader strategy to enhance transport services across various cities in Cameroon. With a commitment to improving urban mobility and navigating regulatory challenges, Yango aims to solidify its presence and cater to the needs of Cameroonian users.
