The Castle of Good Hope in South Africa is currently hosting an exhibition showcasing the work of winners from the Andrey Stenin International Press Photo Contest, named after the esteemed Russian photojournalist. The opening ceremony featured Aleksey Malenko, the Consul General of Russia in Cape Town, who highlighted the exhibition’s significant cultural exchange impact between South Africa and Russia, both members of BRICS.

Malenko stated that the exhibition has generated substantial interest in South Africa and emphasized that the competition serves as a platform for cultural collaboration aimed at sustainable development. He remarked, “BRICS is not purely a political and economic group; it is also a bridge for cultural exchange, which plays a crucial role in fostering mutual understanding.”

Organized by Independent Media and IOL in partnership with the TV BRICS African News Agency and supported by Sputnik News Agency, the exhibition underscores the pivotal role of photojournalism. Iqbal Surve, Chairman of Independent Media, expressed this sentiment at the event, stating, “A picture tells a thousand words… photographs bring us together in a way.”

The Andrey Stenin International Press Photo Contest, held annually, invites young photojournalists aged 18 to 33. Past exhibitions have been featured in various countries, including China, Egypt, Uruguay, and Mexico. The Cape Town exhibition will be accessible to the public until March 16.
