Doyo Hassani Doyo has declared his candidacy for the 2025 Tanzanian presidency, setting up a challenge against incumbent President Samia Suluhu Hassan and ACT-Wazalendo’s Dorothy Semu. His campaign will focus on unemployment, education, agriculture reform, and anti-corruption efforts. Doyo’s wife has pledged her full support, expressing confidence in his leadership abilities. The NLD’s nomination process will occur in April 2025.
Doyo Hassani Doyo, a member of the Nation League for Democracy (NLD), has officially announced his candidacy for the presidency of Tanzania for the upcoming October 2025 General Election. This declaration positions him against the incumbent President Samia Suluhu Hassan, endorsed by the ruling CCM, and her challenger, Ms. Dorothy Semu of ACT-Wazalendo. Mr. Doyo’s announcement took place in Morogoro on March 14, 2025, during a press briefing.
In his campaign platform, Mr. Doyo articulated ten key priorities, which primarily focus on confronting unemployment, enhancing educational opportunities, and reforming the agricultural and livestock sectors. He also underscored the necessity of improving water resource management, tackling tax evasion issues, combating corruption, and instilling a culture of responsible taxation amongst citizens. Mr. Doyo stated, “I have announced my intention to run for president in the forthcoming General Election. My priorities reflect the challenges our nation is facing.”
His agenda further includes crucial topics such as bolstering the mining industry, increasing technological access, promoting girls’ education, and enhancing the union between Mainland Tanganyika and Zanzibar. He also aims to emphasize the development of the private sector as a means to elevate productivity in governmental and social domains.
Supporting her husband’s ambitions, Ms. Halima Rajabu voiced her confidence in his leadership capabilities, describing him as diligent and principled. She highlighted the pressing issue of youth unemployment and expressed assurance that healthcare would be a primary focus under Mr. Doyo’s governance. She remarked, “Corruption is another area that needs urgent attention.”
Mr. Doyo’s campaign manager, Mr. Twaha Saidi Mngatwa, confirmed the intention to submit his presidential application to the NLD by March 21, 2025. The party’s nomination process is scheduled for April 10, 2025, prior to the General Election, pending the endorsement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Doyo Hassani Doyo’s presidential candidacy for Tanzania’s 2025 elections introduces significant competition against the current president and an opposing party leader. His campaign focuses on addressing unemployment, advancing education, reforming agriculture, and combating corruption. With his wife’s support and a clear strategy, Mr. Doyo’s intentions could bring substantial changes to Tanzania’s political landscape. The upcoming nomination processes will be crucial in determining his path forward in this electoral race.
