Noronex Limited has obtained two new prospecting licenses in Botswana near its Damara project, covering nearly 1500 square kilometers in the Kalahari Copper Belt. The firm plans to conduct geochemical sampling after securing environmental approval and aims to discover significant copper deposits. Additionally, Noronex continues to explore its Fiesta target in Namibia, with promising results reported from recent drilling.
Noronex Limited has secured two strategic prospecting licenses in Botswana, located near the Namibia-Botswana border and adjacent to its existing Damara copper project in Namibia. These licenses showcase an impressive area of nearly 1500 square kilometers of previously unexplored land within the Kalahari Copper Belt, specifically encompassing the key D’Kar Formation along the basin margin.
The new licenses, obtained through Noronex’s subsidiary Senyetse Resources, cover 721.87 square kilometers and 745.40 square kilometers. Following this, Noronex intends to transfer the licenses to its newly established wholly-owned subsidiary, Tilodi Metals Botswana P/L. The company expresses enthusiasm regarding this development, particularly amidst the recent endorsement of the Kalahari Copper Belt’s potential through BHP’s earn-in deal with Cobre Ltd.
Notably, one significant magnetic signature from the Damara site extends northeast into the newly acquired licenses, situated less than 3 kilometers from the border. This year, Noronex has drilled seven holes at the Otjiuapehuri prospect and is currently awaiting laboratory results for the samples collected.
While the magnetic and gravity data suggest important structural trends across the border, complexity increases towards the northeast. The geological features remain poorly understood as the Botswana area has not been drilled before. Consequently, Noronex plans to initiate an orientation geochemical sampling program on the new prospecting ground, which requires obtaining environmental approval.
It is anticipated that this area will be covered with Kalahari sands ranging from 10 to 80 meters deep. Notably, part of the sampling region is adjacent to Cobre Limited’s Thul prospect within its Kitlanya West project. Cobre has recently entered an earn-in agreement allowing BHP to acquire a 75 percent interest in their Kitlanya projects by investing up to $25 million within eight years.
International attention toward the Kalahari Copper Belt is growing. Despite its strong prospectivity, understanding the geology requires extensive effort. Noronex’s ongoing research and the forthcoming geochemical analysis will provide insight into the area’s potential, guiding future exploration strategies. Furthermore, Noronex plans to resume drilling activities at its Fiesta target within its Humpback project, demonstrating optimism for significant results from deeper diamond drilling.
The latest results from the Fiesta target revealed a promising hit of 16 meters at 1 percent copper and 33 grams per tonne silver from a depth of 158 meters, including 7 meters at 1.5 percent copper and 54 grams per tonne silver from 161 meters.
In summary, Noronex Limited has made significant advancements by acquiring two exploration licenses in Botswana, providing access to a vast and prospective region in the Kalahari Copper Belt. With ongoing exploration and the recent enthusiasm surrounding the potential of nearby projects, the company is poised to further investigate the geological landscape. Anticipated geochemical analysis will shape future exploration efforts while simultaneously pursuing drilling at the promising Fiesta target in Namibia.
