Poland and Mongolia Strengthen Diplomatic Relations Through New Agreements

Polish President Andrzej Duda and Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh met in March 2025 in Warsaw to discuss strengthening diplomatic relations and signed several agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation across various sectors. Key topics included healthcare, military education, cultural collaboration, and economic ties, particularly amid concerns over global stability.

On March 13, 2025, Polish President Andrzej Duda and Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh convened in Warsaw during an official visit, marking a significant moment for diplomatic relations between their nations. During the meeting, the leaders engaged in private discussions before broadening their talks to include their respective delegations. Duda highlighted that the year 2024 will celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, expressing optimism for future cooperation.

The meetings also addressed critical international issues, including Russia’s war in Ukraine. Both leaders expressed hope for a just and lasting peace to prevent further aggression and maintain stability, ensuring the continuity of cultural and economic exchanges between Poland and Mongolia. As a result of this visit, several agreements were signed to enhance cooperation across various sectors.

Among these were a strategic five-year cooperation plan, emphasizing joint initiatives, and agreements that foster academic collaboration between institutions in both countries. Additionally, a memorandum of understanding was established between Poland’s Office for Registration of Medicinal Products and Mongolia’s Drug Regulatory Agency, promoting regulatory cooperation in healthcare.

The partnership extended into military education, forming an alliance between Poland’s War Studies Academy and its Mongolian equivalent. In the media sector, cooperative agreements between the Polish public broadcaster TVP and Mongolia’s National Broadcaster were signed, further enhancing cultural exchange.

Furthermore, a significant partnership emerged between Poland’s Documentary and Feature Film Studio and Mongolia’s Mongolkino, highlighting a mutual interest in strengthening ties within the cultural domain. The discussions also included Poland’s aspirations for infrastructure development projects in Mongolia, alongside opportunities in heavy industry, agriculture, tourism, and food processing.

Khürelsükh pointed out that Duda’s prior visit to Mongolia in April 2023 laid a foundation for the current agreements, underscoring the progression from dialogue to implementation. He emphasized the tangible benefits expected for both nations as a result of these initiatives, noting that both countries are invested in expanding economic cooperation. Poland is currently Mongolia’s third-largest trading partner in the European Union, with significant exports including food products, machinery, and chemicals since 2005.

The recent meeting between Presidents Duda and Khürelsükh underscores a commitment to strengthening Poland-Mongolia relations through various strategic agreements, particularly in economic, educational, and cultural sectors. Notable discussions surrounding international peace and cooperation reflect their shared goals for future development. As both nations celebrate 75 years of diplomacy, the agreements signify a promising direction for bilateral relations.
