Argentina Applauds Completion of Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Negotiations

Argentina commended the successful conclusion of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty negotiations. The Foreign Ministry emphasized hopes for regional stability and prosperity, despite ongoing tensions stemming from accusations and preconditions by Azerbaijan. Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan expressed readiness to sign the agreement.

Argentina has expressed its support for the successful conclusion of peace treaty negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In an official statement via X, the Argentine Foreign Ministry noted, “Argentina welcomes the completion of the negotiations around the draft peace agreement between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.” The ministry praised both nations for their commitment to finding a peaceful resolution to their conflicts.

Furthermore, Argentina conveyed optimism that this diplomatic process will promote mutual development and improve welfare in both countries, leading to enhanced stability and prosperity in the South Caucasus region. This positive outlook comes after Armenia and Azerbaijan announced on March 13 that they had finalized negotiations on the peace treaty terms.

However, tensions remain, as the Azerbaijani government initiated a significant disinformation campaign shortly thereafter, alleging that Armenia had conducted attacks on its military positions. These accusations have been categorically denied by Armenian military officials, who also pointed out the lack of evidence presented by Azerbaijan to support its claims. Additionally, findings from the EU monitoring mission in Armenia corroborated Armenia’s denial regarding border confrontations.

Complicating matters, Azerbaijan has imposed preconditions on the peace agreement, including demands for constitutional changes in Armenia, based on unfounded claims of territorial disputes, and called for the disbandment of the OSCE Minsk Group. Despite these challenges, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reaffirmed on March 20 his willingness to proceed with signing the peace agreement with Azerbaijan.

The conclusion of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty negotiations has been positively received by Argentina, which encourages a peaceful resolution. While both nations strive for stability in the South Caucasus, ongoing tensions from Azerbaijan’s unfounded accusations and preconditions pose challenges. Nevertheless, Armenian leadership expresses readiness to formalize peace, highlighting an ongoing commitment to diplomatic engagement.
