Stuart Law Appointed as Head Coach of Nepal’s Cricket Team

Stuart Law has been appointed as the head coach of Nepal’s cricket team on a two-year contract following Monty Desai’s departure. Law previously coached the USA and has extensive international coaching experience. Nepal will participate in the Cricket World Cup League 2, pivotal for their 2027 World Cup qualification.

Former Australian cricketer Stuart Law has been appointed as the head coach of Nepal’s men’s cricket team under a two-year contract. This appointment follows the Cricket Association of Nepal’s (CAN) decision to seek a new coach after parting ways with Monty Desai in February. Desai had led Nepal to the T20 World Cup last year, but his contract was not renewed by the association.

At 56 years old, Law secured the coaching role ahead of notable candidates such as West Indies legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul and former Sri Lanka coach Dav Whatmore, among others. Law’s most recent position was with the United States cricket team, although he was dismissed by USA Cricket six months into a three-year deal last October, despite achieving a significant upset against Pakistan during the T20 World Cup.

Throughout his career, Law played 54 One Day Internationals and one Test match for Australia and has experience coaching teams such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, West Indies, Afghanistan, and Middlesex. Under his guidance, Nepal will compete against Scotland and the Netherlands in the Cricket World Cup League 2, which is crucial for the qualification for the 2027 ODI World Cup, scheduled for June.

The appointment of Stuart Law as the head coach for Nepal marks a new chapter for the national cricket team as they prepare for crucial upcoming tournaments. Law’s extensive coaching background and experience in international cricket position him as a promising leader for Nepal. His task will be to enhance the team’s performance as they strive for qualification in future Cricket World Cup events.
