Lana Nusseibeh, the UAE Assistant Minister for Political Affairs, recently concluded a significant visit to Brussels, where she engaged with prominent members of the European Parliament and high-ranking EU officials. During her stay, Ms. Nusseibeh met with EU Commissioner Dubravka Suica to explore ways to enhance UAE-EU relations and discussed key regional issues such as the situations in Gaza and Syria. Additionally, she met with Simon Mordue, Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service, to focus on developments in the Middle East as well as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

The envoy also engaged with various EU Special Representatives, including Luigi Di Maio, who is responsible for the Gulf region, and Annette Weber, who oversees the Horn of Africa. They addressed regional stability concerns, particularly with regard to Sudan. Furthermore, Ms. Nusseibeh’s meetings with members of the European Parliament highlighted both regional developments and economic partnerships.

One significant discussion took place with Sabine Weyand, Director-General for Trade at the European Commission, aimed at improving trade relations between the UAE and the EU. Additionally, consultations regarding economic, financial, and judicial cooperation were conducted with officials from the European Commission’s Financial Stability and Financial Services sector.

Ms. Nusseibeh also contributed to the Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation’s High-Level Dialogue, where she shared insights from the UAE’s recent tenure as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. She highlighted the potential for stronger EU-UAE collaboration focused on promoting peace and security.
