Offshore drilling activities have seen substantial contracts this week involving Tullow, TotalEnergies, and Equinor. Tullow plans to resume drilling in Ghana by May 2025, while TotalEnergies has contracted the Stena DrillMAX for exploratory work in Suriname. Equinor extends its Deepsea Atlantic rig contract, alongside Halliburton’s award from Petrobras for integrated services. ADES has secured a contract for jack-up drilling in Nigeria.
In this week’s update on drilling activities, Offshore reports significant contracts involving Tullow, TotalEnergies, and Equinor, alongside advancements in drilling technologies by Halliburton and Reelwell, and future offshore projects.
Tullow anticipates a return to drilling in Ghana by May 2025, aiming to halt decreasing production rates at the Jubilee field. The company has upgraded the FPSO’s water injection capacity to 300,000 bbl/d and has initiated a 4D seismic survey to optimize the subsequent drilling program in 2025-2026. The drillship Noble Venturer is scheduled to begin drilling on Jubilee, targeting one producer and one injector, expected online by Q3 2025.
TotalEnergies has contracted the Stena DrillMAX drillship for an exploration and managed pressure drilling program in Suriname, set to commence in the second quarter of 2025. This contract holds the potential for an extension of up to three additional wells in Surinamese waters.
Equinor has successfully extended its contract for the Deepsea Atlantic rig until the end of Q2 2027. Under existing terms, the rig will operate until mid-Q3 2026. The contract includes options for four single-well agreements and three one-year renewals, potentially keeping the rig active until 2030 for an estimated $148 million in additional value.
Reelwell, in collaboration with Odfjell Technology, has secured a contract with Vår Energi to deploy its DualLink powered drill pipe technology on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. This initial one-year contract allows for four optional extensions and includes the potential to broaden its scope across all Vår Energi’s installations in the North Sea.
Halliburton has been awarded a substantial contract with Petrobras to deliver comprehensive drilling services across multiple offshore fields in Brazil for a three-year duration beginning in 2025. The contract emphasizes Halliburton’s innovative technology, including an intelligent rotary steerable system, automation platforms, ultradeep resistivity services, and advanced hydraulic applications.
ADES has established a jack-up drilling contract offshore Nigeria valued at approximately $21.8 million with Valiant Offshore Contractors. The Admarine 504 rig will conduct operations for Brittania-U, with the program scheduled to start in the second quarter and expected to last one year. ADES will oversee the management and operation of the rig with Valiant conducting the drilling tasks.
This report highlights critical developments in offshore drilling contracts involving Tullow, TotalEnergies, Equinor, Reelwell, and Halliburton. It underscores the strategic measures being undertaken to boost production rates in Ghana, the expansions of operations in Suriname, and the innovative technologies being deployed across various projects. The partnerships formed demonstrate a commitment to advancing offshore drilling efficacy and addressing industry challenges moving forward.
