On Thursday, India firmly condemned Pakistan for disseminating misinformation about Jammu and Kashmir at the United Nations in Geneva. Kshitij Tyagi, India’s Permanent Mission representative, referred to Pakistan as a “failed state” reliant on foreign aid, accusing its leadership of propagating baseless claims dictated by its military establishment. He expressed disappointment at the continued spread of falsehoods by Pakistani officials, particularly in response to allegations of human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir.
Tyagi criticized Pakistan for exploiting international platforms to promote anti-India narratives while neglecting its internal issues. He stated, “Pakistan is making a mockery of the OIC by abusing it as its mouthpiece.” He further characterized Pakistan’s actions as hypocritical and expressed concern over the time wasted by the United Nations on matters concerning a nation that, according to him, thrives on instability and seeks international handouts.
Reinforcing India’s perspective, Tyagi reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir, alongside Ladakh, are integral parts of India. He highlighted the notable development and stability achieved in these regions in recent years, contrasting them with the unrest allegedly propagated by Pakistan. He stated that recent political, social, and economic progress in Jammu and Kashmir illustrates the faith of its citizens in their government’s commitment to normalcy in a historically tumultuous region.

The Indian diplomat reiterated, “Instead of its unhealthy obsession with India, Pakistan should focus on providing actual governance and justice to its own people.”
Earlier this year, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, had similarly admonished Pakistan during a UNSC Open Debate, reaffirming India’s stance on Jammu and Kashmir as an unalienable part of the nation. Harish stated, “The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been, is, and will always be, an integral and inalienable part of India.”
