On February 25, Libyan Prime Minister Abdul-Hamed Dbeibah engaged in discussions with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to strengthen bilateral relationships and address regional concerns. The meeting culminated in the signing of several memoranda of cooperation between Libya and Somalia.

These memoranda encompass mutual visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic, special, and service passports, alongside an agreement for political consultations aimed at bolstering diplomatic coordination on shared interests. Additionally, they include a partnership agreement for local administration and urban development initiatives.

A joint high-level committee is set to be established to review previous agreements, particularly focusing on Libyan investments in Somalia to enhance economic cooperation and development. The two leaders highlighted the necessity of coordinated efforts on regional issues, especially with Somalia’s recent election to the UN Security Council, which positions it to positively influence stability in the Horn of Africa.

Moreover, President Mohamud also met with Mohamed Menfi, the president of Libya’s Presidency Council, to discuss avenues for developing bilateral relations and strategic cooperation in African and international forums. Agreements on visa exemptions for diplomatic passport holders and political consultation were also part of the discussions during this meeting.

In summary, the meetings between Libyan and Somali leaders led to significant agreements that aim to enhance diplomatic and economic ties. The establishment of a joint committee and mutual visa exemptions signify a commitment to deepening cooperation in various sectors, particularly in regional stability and development. This collaboration reflects both countries’ dedication to advancing their interests on the global stage.
