Notably, this race represented Mercedes’ first appearance in the FIA WEC, marking the initial usage of their advanced torque sensors, previously only introduced to other clients at the IMSA 24 Hours of Daytona.
During the third hour of competition, driver Christian Reid experienced a technical issue that caused the rear end of his 61 Mercedes-AMG to slide, resulting in the vehicle becoming stuck in a gravel trap. Consequently, the 61 vehicle had to retire from the event, while the yellow 60 Mercedes also encountered issues, requiring an extensive three-hour repair. Iron Lynx Team Principal Andrea Piccini acknowledged the challenges faced, stating, “We knew it was going to be a hard challenge, but we were hoping for something better.”
