Türkiye has urged for an immediate ceasefire in the escalating Sudan conflict, expressing deep concern over the humanitarian crisis that has resulted in over 20,000 deaths and 14 million displaced persons since April 2023. Turkish officials highlighted the need to protect Sudan’s integrity and offered assistance for conflict resolution and the restoration of peace and stability.

On Saturday, Türkiye expressed its deep concern regarding the ongoing conflict in Sudan, calling for an immediate ceasefire. Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Oncu Keceli stated, “We are deeply saddened by the ongoing escalation of the conflict in Sudan and the worsening humanitarian situation. We once again call on the parties for a ceasefire and peace to prevent further bloodshed.” Keceli further highlighted the necessity of safeguarding Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence.

He reaffirmed Türkiye’s readiness to assist in resolving the conflict, aiming to establish peace, security, and stability in Sudan, which Türkiye considers a friendly and brotherly nation. The conflict, involving the Sudanese army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has been ongoing since April 2023, resulting in over 20,000 fatalities and displacing approximately 14 million individuals, as reported by the United Nations and local authorities.

Currently, during the crisis, two million people across 27 locations in Sudan are facing or on the verge of famine, according to the World Food Program. The international community and the United Nations have been intensifying their calls for an end to the hostilities, issuing warnings about an imminent humanitarian disaster as millions face severe food shortages. The conflict continues to spread across 13 of Sudan’s 18 states.

In conclusion, Türkiye has reiterated its emphasis on the need for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan amidst the escalating conflict that has resulted in grave humanitarian consequences. With the death toll exceeding 20,000 and millions displaced, international calls for peace are becoming increasingly urgent. Türkiye stands ready to support efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in Sudan, reflecting its commitment to humanitarian values.
