Eritrean Nahom Araya Wins Stage 6 of Tour du Rwanda, Doubey Retains Yellow Jersey

Eritrean Nahom Araya won stage 6 of the Tour du Rwanda, overtaking Rwandan rider Moise Mugisha in the final stretch. Fabien Doubey reclaimed the yellow jersey from Joris Delbove. Vainqueur Masengesho improved his overall position to seventh place. The final stage will take place on March 2, 2023.

On Saturday, March 1, Eritrean cyclist Nahom Araya triumphed in stage 6 of the Tour du Rwanda, covering a distance of 131.5 kilometers from Nyanza to Canal Olympia (Rebero) in a time of 3 hours, 9 minutes, and 23 seconds. Rwandan rider Moise Mugisha led the peloton in the final three kilometers; however, Araya managed to overtake him with just 10 seconds remaining in the race. Mugisha concluded the stage in sixth place.

French cyclist Fabien Doubey from TotalEnergies reclaimed the yellow jersey from his teammate, Joris Delbove, after losing it in Stage 4. The Eritrean national team marked its return to the podium following Henok Mulubrhan’s victory in Stage 1. Currently, Mulubrhan holds third place in the overall classification.

Vainqueur Masengesho, the highest-ranked Rwandan cyclist, advanced from ninth to seventh place in the general classification, finishing 54 seconds behind Araya. The concluding seventh stage, a circuit race of 74 kilometers around the 2025 UCI Road World Championships course at the Kigali Convention Centre, is scheduled for Sunday, March 2.

The results for Stage 6 are as follows: Nahom Araya (Eritrea) completed the race in 3 hours, 9 minutes, and 23 seconds. Milan Donie of Lotto Dstny finished just 10 seconds later, followed by Henok Mulubrhan (Eritrea) and Fabien Doubey (TotalEnergies) at 10 and 14 seconds behind, respectively. Rwandan Moses Mugisha finished with a time of 22 seconds behind Araya, and several other cyclists followed closely behind.
