New Danish Ambassador Enhances Bilateral Relations with Seychelles

Ambassador Stephan Schonemann presented his credentials to President Wavel Ramkalawan in an official ceremony. His Excellency Mr. Stephan Schonemann, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to the Republic of Seychelles, presented his credentials to President Wavel Ramkalawan during an official accreditation ceremony at State House yesterday morning.

President Ramkalawan welcomed Ambassador Schonemann and reaffirmed the strong bilateral relationship between Seychelles and Denmark, particularly emphasizing their successful cooperation in the maritime sector. He expressed hope for expanding collaborative efforts into new areas of mutual interest.

During their discussions, significant topics addressed included climate change, maritime security, and tourism. President Ramkalawan also extended his warm regards to His Majesty King Frederik X of Denmark, acknowledging the greetings conveyed by the Ambassador.

Ambassador Schonemann expressed his enthusiasm for his new position, highlighting the positive dialogue he had with President Ramkalawan. He reiterated his dedication to fortifying existing partnerships, especially concerning energy and climate initiatives during his tenure.

Following the presentation of credentials, Ambassador Schonemann made a courtesy visit to Vice President Ahmed Afif. He is based in Nairobi, Kenya, succeeding H.E. Mr. Ole Thonke, who previously served as Denmark’s Ambassador to Seychelles since April 20, 2021.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Minister for Tourism and Foreign Affairs Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Vivienne Fock-Tave, and other officials from the Bilateral Affairs Division.

The accreditation of Mr. Stephan Schonemann as Denmark’s new Ambassador to Seychelles signifies a continued commitment to enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in crucial areas such as climate initiatives and maritime security.
