The government of Guyana has delivered six mini excavators valued at $96 million to six NDCs on the East Bank of Demerara, improving community drainage. This initiative, supported by President Irfaan Ali and Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo, is aimed at enhancing the capabilities of local councils in managing drainage systems.
Residents in Mocha/Arcadia and nearby communities along the East Bank of Demerara can look forward to improved drainage services thanks to the recent donation of six mini excavators. These excavators, valued at approximately $96 million, were presented to six Neighborhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) to enhance their drainage capabilities.
On Friday, Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha officially delivered the mini excavators to chairpersons and officials from the Eccles/Ramsburg, Mocha/Arcadia, Little Diamond/Herstelling, Soesdyke/T’Huis te/Coverden, and Hauraruni/Yarrowkabra NDCs. Minister Mustapha was accompanied at this event by Minister of Local Government Sonia Parag.
Minister Mustapha highlighted that President Irfaan Ali and Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo recognized the importance of the NDCs in community development. They mandated that each NDC across Guyana should receive a mini excavator to aid in the maintenance and clearance of local drainage channels, which is part of a broader government initiative to empower these councils.
The presentation of mini excavators to the six NDCs along the East Bank of Demerara represents a significant investment in local infrastructure aimed at improving drainage systems. This initiative, launched by the government, underscores the importance of empowering local governance structures to promote community welfare.
