During the ceremony, Margherita extended greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the new leadership, expressing optimism for future collaboration to enhance India-Uruguay relations.
In a post shared on social media platform X, Margherita stated, “Honored to represent India at the swearing-in ceremony of President H.E. Yamandu Orsi and Vice President Carolina Cosse. Conveyed warm greetings and felicitations from the Prime Minister of India to the new government of Uruguay. Congratulations to the people of Uruguay on this historic occasion. Prior to the swearing-in, Margherita paid a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by laying a floral offering at his bust in Montevideo and engaging with the Indian diaspora. Following this, he expressed, “Paid a floral tribute at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi in Montevideo, Uruguay, and also interacted with the Indian community. Honored to uphold the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and strengthen the bonds of friendship between India and Uruguay.”
Additionally, Margherita met with Uruguay’s designating Minister of Industry, Energy, and Mining, Fernanda Cardona, discussing mutually beneficial concerns. He expressed, “Pleased to meet Fernanda Cardona, the Minister of Industry, Energy, and Mining of Uruguay (designate), in Montevideo. Discussed various issues of mutual interest and agreed to deepen and diversify ties between our two friendly countries.”
Margherita’s official visit to Uruguay commenced on February 28 and is scheduled to continue with stops in the Bahamas, Barbados, and Nicaragua. His presence signifies India’s commitment to fostering closer ties with Uruguay and the broader Latin American region.
