Mr. Collins Dauda, the Chairman of the Hajj Board, highlighted that Ghana’s Hajj fare of $4,100 is the lowest in the sub-region, compared to fares exceeding $5,000 in neighboring countries. The deadline for fare payment is set for March 13. To ensure a smooth pilgrimage, only 5,000 pilgrims will be airlifted, and agents are advised to manage payments accordingly.
The Chairman of the Hajj Board, Mr. Collins Dauda, announced that Ghana offers the lowest fare for the Hajj pilgrimage among neighboring countries, with a total fee of $4,100, equivalent to GHS62,000. He emphasized that this fare is considerably less than those charged by Senegal, Burkina Faso, Cote D’Ivoire, and Nigeria, all of which exceed $5,000.
During a press briefing held at the new satellite passport office at Hajj village, which aims to facilitate premium passport processing for pilgrims, Mr. Dauda stated that the government does not intend to lower the Hajj fare further. He confirmed, “Not that I know of, the fare we have announced is GHS62,000” and reiterated that it remains the most affordable in the region.
The government has set the deadline for Hajj fare payments as March 13 and has limited the number of pilgrims to 5,000 for this year’s pilgrimage. Mr. Dauda cautioned agencies not to accept payments beyond this limit to avoid situations where pilgrims who pay are unable to travel.
He expressed concern over ensuring a seamless pilgrimage experience by monitoring payments closely. “We are doing 5000 pilgrims and so we are monitoring the payments and if after getting the 5000, we will not accept money from anyone,” he stated, advising agents to manage their transactions carefully to adhere to this policy.
In summary, Ghana’s Hajj pilgrimage fare is the most competitive in the sub-region, at $4,100. The government will not reduce this fare further and is strictly limiting the number of pilgrims to 5,000. Agencies have been instructed to monitor payments closely to prevent issues for prospective pilgrims, ensuring a smooth pilgrimage experience.
