Following this development, the army now maintains control over nine bridges linking three key cities within Khartoum, with the exception of the Jebel Aulia Bridge located on the White Nile in southern Khartoum.
In a military briefing, the Sudanese army announced that they had advanced significantly over the past few months, regaining control over several critical locations, including the East Nile district. This area has seen the capture of various governmental sites, enhancing the army’s influence. Currently, in Khartoum State, the army commands the regions of Bahri to the north, most of Omdurman to the west, and approximately 75% of Khartoum city, which houses the presidential palace and international airport.
Despite the army’s advances, the RSF still maintains a presence in the eastern and southern neighborhoods of Khartoum. Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, leading to significant casualties. Estimates from the UN and local authorities suggest that over 20,000 individuals have lost their lives, while US university research indicates a potential death toll of approximately 130,000, with 14 million people displaced by the ongoing violence.
