Saudi Cabinet Affirms Support for Palestinians and National Initiatives

The Saudi Cabinet has proclaimed its enduring support for Palestinian rights following an Arab League summit. It condemned Israel’s restrictions on humanitarian aid in Gaza while emphasizing Lebanon’s sovereignty. The Cabinet also discussed national initiatives for social services housing and major development projects like the Sports Boulevard in Riyadh, which aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

The Saudi Cabinet has voiced its unwavering support for the decisions made during the extraordinary Arab League summit in Cairo, which firmly opposed the displacement of Palestinians. The Cabinet reaffirmed Palestinians’ right to self-determination, advocating for the establishment of an independent state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. The summit’s final declaration also called for deploying an international peacekeeping force in Palestinian territories and expressed commitment to a just peace honoring Palestinian rights.

During a weekly session led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh, ministers condemned Israel’s obstructive measures against humanitarian aid entering Gaza and urged the international community to take responsibility and uphold accountability mechanisms. Discussions included the importance of international support to mitigate ongoing humanitarian crises resulting from the war, advocating for sustainable aid access.

The Cabinet examined a joint statement from President Joseph Aoun’s recent visit to Riyadh, emphasizing the importance of upholding the Taif Agreement that concluded Lebanon’s civil war in 1989. It stressed the necessity of Lebanon retaining complete sovereignty and restricting weapon access to the Lebanese state while encouraging the strengthening of the Lebanese Army’s national role as well as calling for the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from Lebanon.

In regard to social services, the Cabinet reiterated commitment to national initiatives aimed at providing adequate housing for vulnerable families. This includes the Jood Regions campaign, launched during Ramadan in 2024, which aims to deliver over 10,000 housing units across the Kingdom’s provinces, reinforced by contributions from King Salman and the crown prince totaling SR150 million ($40 million) for the campaign’s second stage.

Furthermore, the Cabinet reviewed major developmental and service projects to enhance comprehensive progress in the Kingdom. Ministers celebrated the completion of the first phase of the Sports Boulevard project in Riyadh, which is now 40 percent finished, providing 83 kilometers of accessible routes for visitors. This initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 by promoting sustainability and transforming Riyadh into a leading global city through the integration of sports and cultural activities.

In summary, the Saudi Cabinet has reiterated its support for Palestinian rights and condemned humanitarian aid restrictions in Gaza. The Cabinet’s discussions encompassed bilateral relations with Lebanon, the importance of social services, and significant developmental projects in the Kingdom, reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s commitment to comprehensive peace, international cooperation, and enhancing the living standards of its citizens.
