The China International Press Communication Center (CIPCC), in collaboration with the China Public Diplomacy Association (CPDA), has launched a four-month media exchange and capacity-building initiative in Beijing, connecting 55 journalists from Africa and other regions, including Liberia. This program, which commenced on February 27, 2025, aims to enhance participants’ understanding of Chinese socio-economic development, governance, and international diplomacy. It also seeks to facilitate collaboration between China and the global media, offering firsthand insights into China’s political and cultural dynamics.
The initiative provides immersive learning experiences for journalists from developing nations through lectures, field trips, and internships. This year, the program attracted 120 applicants from over 100 countries, culminating in the selection of 55 participants. During the opening ceremony, CIPCC Director Yu Lei expressed enthusiasm for fostering global media ties and emphasized the importance of accurate storytelling in enhancing understanding of China.
Yu Lei welcomed participants to China, encouraging them to respect local laws and seize the opportunity to learn about the country’s transformation. He highlighted that the program would grant exclusive access to major political events such as the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, providing rare insights into China’s legislative processes.
Throughout the program, journalists will receive specialized training covering a wide array of topics, including Chinese diplomacy, technological advancements, and media best practices. The initiative will also involve field visits to various provinces and symposiums with Chinese think tanks and government agencies aimed at enhancing participants’ understanding of domestic and foreign policies.
Lincoln G. Peters, a Diplomatic and Legislative Reporter for The New Dawn newspaper in Liberia, represents his country in this program. Peters has been chronicling China-related developments for seven years and views his selection as a pivotal opportunity to strengthen Liberia-China media relations. He expressed gratitude to the People’s Republic of China and his editorial team for supporting his involvement in the international initiative.
Peters articulated his commitment to sharing untold stories about China’s development, emphasizing the program’s dual purpose of professional growth and international diplomacy. The CIPCC’s initiative has evolved over the past decade into a recognized platform for media cooperation and cross-cultural exchange, aligning with China’s broader diplomatic strategy.
As the program extends through July 11, 2025, participants are expected to create detailed reports, documentaries, and multimedia stories reflecting their experiences and observations. Director Yu Lei reaffirmed the commitment to nurture journalists’ professional development while encouraging open dialogue between China and the world.
This exchange initiative not only facilitates knowledge acquisition about China but also aims to establish lasting collaborations between nations, enhancing mutual understanding through journalism.
The CIPCC’s media exchange program is a significant step toward fostering international collaboration and mutual understanding between China and other countries. With a focus on empowering journalists from developing nations, the initiative aims to enhance media relations while providing valuable insights into China’s political and cultural landscape.
