Kyrgyzstan and five other nations condemned Nazi glorification at a UN meeting, emphasizing historical accountability for World War II atrocities and the importance of preserving the memory of the sacrifices made in the fight against Nazism.
During the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, six countries, including Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, condemned the glorification of Nazis amidst the approaching 80th anniversary of World War II’s conclusion. The statement emphasized that such glorification is unequivocally unacceptable in light of the extensive human toll exacted by the conflict.
Evgeny Ustinov, representing the Russian delegation, highlighted that the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg categorized the actions of Nazi war criminals as criminal, documenting severe atrocities against civilians. He reiterated that these acts are classified as genocide and should not be forgotten or dismissed.
The six nations denounced the equalization of culpability between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, characterizing such comparisons as “immoral and blasphemous”. They highlighted the significance of honoring the memory of those who perished fighting against Nazism, reiterating their commitment to historical accuracy.
Furthermore, the joint statement stressed the collective responsibility to uphold the truth concerning the victory over Nazism. It called for vigilance against the resurgence of ideologies that promote hatred and discrimination, advocating for the remembrance of past sacrifices to prevent future occurrences of similar inhumanity.
