Vietnam and Kenya Strengthen Bilateral Ties to Enhance Cooperation

Vietnam and Kenya aim to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties following Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen’s presentation of her letter of credence to President William Samoei Ruto. The discussions included proposals for honorary consuls and increased delegation exchanges to facilitate trade and cooperation ahead of the P4G Summit in 2025.

Vietnam and Kenya are poised to enhance their diplomatic and economic partnership as Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen reaffirmed her dedication to fostering bilateral cooperation during her tenure. On March 5, she officially presented her letter of credence to Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto in Nairobi, marking an important step in strengthening ties.

Ambassador Huyen expressed her anticipation for the Kenyan government’s support and proposed the timely appointment of honorary consuls in both nations. These consuls will serve as essential facilitators for improving economic and trade collaboration between Vietnam and Kenya.

Additionally, she conveyed an invitation from Vietnamese State President Luong Cuong to President Ruto, urging him to visit Vietnam for the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit in Hanoi, scheduled for April 2025.

President Ruto acknowledged the strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two countries, emphasizing the active engagement across various sectors. He expressed his confidence in Ambassador Huyen’s role in further enhancing the partnership between Vietnam and Kenya.

In discussions with Ambassador Eliphas Brine, Director-General for Political and Diplomatic Affairs at Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Huyen focused on the necessity of increasing delegation exchanges and strengthening coordination between their foreign ministries. This discussion builds on recent successes, including the visit of Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang to Kenya in February.

Ambassador Eliphas Brine concurred on the importance of advancing delegation exchanges and deepening bilateral cooperation, along with reinforcing mutual support within multilateral forums. During her visit, Ambassador Huyen also engaged in courtesy calls and meetings with several ambassadors from ASEAN countries present in Kenya. Vietnam and Kenya established diplomatic relations on December 21, 1995.

In summary, the recent diplomatic engagements between Vietnam and Kenya signify a pivotal moment in their bilateral relations. The commitment to appoint honorary consuls, increase delegation exchanges, and participate in multilateral forums highlights both nations’ dedication to fostering deeper cooperation in various sectors. The upcoming P4G Summit will further solidify these efforts, paving the way for enhanced collaboration.
