Enkhkhuslen Batbayar, a swimmer from Mongolia, has recently completed a transformative three-year journey as an athlete in the World Aquatics Scholarship Programme, coinciding with her participation at the Paris 2024 Olympics. After her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, where she trained under challenging conditions at Mongolia’s sole swimming facility, Batbayar was accepted into the prestigious scholarship program.
This program, initiated in 2014, aims to assist athletes from developing nations who lack adequate training facilities. Following her acceptance, Batbayar relocated to the World Aquatics Thanyapura Training Centre in Thailand, where she excelled remarkably, setting eight national short course records within a two-month period in 2022, including records in multiple freestyle events and individual medley.
Her record-setting streak continued into 2023, as she established new long course records in various disciplines and participated in numerous international competitions. During an interview in Fukuoka, Batbayar expressed gratitude for her training environment, attributing her success to the supportive atmosphere at the Thanyapura Centre.
As Batbayar prepares for her second Olympic Games, she delivered an outstanding performance with a career-best time in the Women’s 200m Freestyle. Following this event, she announced her acceptance into the University of Nevada’s swimming and diving program, recognizing the move as a new challenge.
