In Kabul, Acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi had a productive visit to Oman where he engaged in discussions with his Omani counterpart, the leaders of the Chamber of Commerce and Investment, and the Minister of Auqaf and Religious Affairs. The primary focus of the talks included economic collaboration, the establishment of direct flights, and addressing the challenges faced by Afghan citizens residing in Oman.

The Afghan Foreign Ministry published a statement highlighting that discussions revolved around investment opportunities and trade expansion between Afghanistan and Oman. Notably, they deliberated on the launch of direct flights and the shared issues concerning Afghan nationals in Oman, as well as enhancing cultural exchanges.

Minister Muttaqi made a specific appeal to Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, the Minister of the Office of the Sultan of Oman, requesting cooperation in alleviating the sentences of Afghan inmates and addressing consular matters for Afghans living in Oman. Al Busaidi committed to facilitating amnesty for Afghan prisoners during significant occasions and assured collaborative efforts with the Afghan Embassy to enhance consular services for the Afghan community.

During his engagement with the leaders of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Investment, both parties agreed on the importance of establishing regular communications between the respective Ministries of Commerce and the private sectors. These communications aim to enhance trade relations, initiate direct flight services, and explore investment possibilities.

Furthermore, Minister Muttaqi conveyed to Oman’s Minister of Auqaf and Religious Affairs the necessity of sharing experiences related to mosques and pilgrimage practices. He also sought Omani assistance in the construction of mosques within Afghanistan, to which Oman expressed its readiness to collaborate with Afghanistan’s Ministry of Guidance, Hajj, and Auqaf.

This visit underscores the commitment of Afghanistan and Oman to foster stronger economic and cultural ties. By addressing essential issues such as the welfare of Afghan citizens and mutual investment opportunities, both nations aim to enhance cooperation significantly. The discussions also highlight a willingness to increase connectivity through direct flights and share valuable religious experiences, further strengthening bilateral relations.
