In the first practice session of the 2025 Argentina MotoGP at Termas de Rio Hondo, Marc Marquez achieved a remarkable milestone by breaking the established lap record, finishing fastest with a time of 1m37.295s. This impressive performance puts him 0.135 seconds ahead of his closest competitor, Fabio Di Giannantonio, who clocked in at 1m37.430s. Alex Marquez from Gresini Racing secured the third position with a commendable time.

Marquez, the current championship leader, demonstrated strong form from the outset, maintaining a lead throughout Friday’s practice sessions. He commenced the session with a significant time of 1m38.184s that allowed him to take the lead momentarily, before regaining the top position with several impressive laps near the end. Notably, Marco Bezzecchi of Aprilia temporarily held the lap record before Marquez’s final lap solidified his dominance.

Despite a competitive practice, Pecco Bagnaia’s session ended in an unfortunate crash with six minutes remaining, causing him to lose valuable time in his final attack. He ended the day just managing to secure a Q2 position, narrowly edging out newcomer Ai Ogura by just 0.021 seconds. Meanwhile, Alex Rins capitalized on Marquez’s reference during the session, achieving sixth place on his factory Yamaha.

Alex Marquez showed strong potential alongside Bezzecchi and Brad Binder’s KTM as they progressed to Q2, with Zarco overcoming an earlier crash to finish seventh. In addition, Fabio Quartararo, after a close encounter with Bagnaia’s crash, managed to secure eighth place, affirming his spot in the top ten with a solid performance.

The session ended with Pedro Acosta in ninth, despite his own crash occurring just after the checkered flag, indicating a challenging day for many riders.

The opening day of the 2025 Argentina MotoGP showcased Marc Marquez’s prowess as he set a new lap record, leading the practice sessions confidently. The crash involving Pecco Bagnaia illustrated the unpredictable nature of the sport, yet he barely qualified for Q2. Ultimately, the results highlighted the competitiveness among the top riders, setting an exciting stage for the upcoming races in this season’s championship.
