The Đà Nẵng International Marathon 2025 is set to take place from March 21-23, featuring over 7,000 participants from 72 countries, marking a historic high for the event. Organizers anticipate nearly 3,000 international runners, reflecting a significant 42 percent increase from the previous year, enhancing the unique experience for both runners and their families seeking beach vacations in Đà Nẵng.
Participants will have the opportunity to compete in several categories, including a full marathon (42 km), half marathon (21 km), and a 5 km fun run, as well as two shorter ‘Ronny Dash’ events for children, which are 500m and 1.5 km. Elite athletes scheduled to participate include renowned marathoners Shadrack Kipkemboi from Kenya and Issel Kawabata from Japan, alongside top Vietnamese athletes.
This year, the event has opted to remove the 10 km category to increase the number of entries in the full and half marathon sections. The coastal city of Đà Nẵng is celebrated as a prime destination for elite runners and this marathon coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the city’s Reunification Day on March 29, 2025, adding significance to the occasion.
March is deemed an ideal time for running, with cooler temperatures expected, making the Đà Nẵng International Marathon a prime gathering for athletes and their families. Organizers also project record-breaking fundraising efforts totaling US$20,000, spearheaded by Dennis Zaborac and the Silver Stride team, benefiting local charities.
Zaborac, a U.S. veteran and long-time marathon participant, has historically encouraged donations to support various local community causes during his visits to Đà Nẵng. Proceeds will support initiatives such as the Plum Orphanage, the Đà Nẵng Association for Agent Orange victims, and other child welfare organizations in the region. Last year’s marathon winners included Kiptoo Edwin of Kenya and Phạm Thị Bình of Vietnam, who triumphed in the 42 km race. Furthermore, this marathon is officially recognized by the International Amateur Athletics Association (IAAF) and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races.
The Đà Nẵng International Marathon 2025 promises to be a landmark event, showcasing a record participation of over 7,000 runners and emphasizing community support through significant fundraising efforts. With renowned athletes participating and the race coinciding with the city’s important anniversary, the event stands as a vital occasion for sportsmanship and philanthropy, reinforcing Đà Nẵng’s status as a premier marathon destination.
