Forensic teams have identified at least 15 victims, most having suffered gunshot wounds to the head, with some appearing to have been alive when thrown into the well, stated Hisham Zain al-Abdin, director of forensic medicine for Khartoum state.
In addition to the bodies found in the well, more corpses have been uncovered along roadsides and hidden in basements in the Sharg Elnil district. Some victims were found bound, suggesting possible executions, according to Zain al-Abdin. He remarked, “There were horrifying scenes here.”
As the civil war in Sudan approaches its two-year anniversary, government forces have made significant advances in areas formerly occupied by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which separated from the military in April 2023.
