General Mohamed Berrid’s Official Visit to Saudi Arabia’s Anti-Terrorism Coalition

General Mohamed Berrid, Inspector General of Morocco’s Armed Forces, is visiting Saudi Arabia to meet with the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition leaders. The visit focuses on enhancing cooperation in combating terrorism. Morocco joined this coalition in 2015 but adjusted its participation amid political tensions. The visit, directed by King Mohammed VI, will continue until March 21.

General Mohamed Berrid, the Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) of Morocco, is currently engaged in an official visit to Saudi Arabia. On March 18, he toured the headquarters of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition, established in 2015 by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. During this visit, discussions focused on mutual interests and enhancing cooperation in the fight against terrorism, as stated by the Coalition on their platform X.

Morocco became a member of this military alliance in 2015, with FAR aircraft participating in military operations against the Houthis in Yemen. Nevertheless, political and military tensions between Morocco and Saudi Arabia prompted Morocco to adjust its participation, which Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita publicly addressed in an interview with Al Jazeera in January 2019.

General Berrid’s visit, taking place from March 16 to 21, follows directives from King Mohammed VI. This ongoing diplomatic engagement indicates Morocco’s commitment to collaborative counter-terrorism efforts, alongside its longstanding relationship with Saudi Arabia.

The official visit of General Mohamed Berrid to Saudi Arabia underscores Morocco’s continued participation in the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition despite past tensions. The discussions during the visit reflect a mutual interest in strengthening cooperation against terrorism. The commitment of both nations to work together in security matters remains evident, highlighting a positive trajectory in their military relations.
