Both leaders emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation across various sectors as both nations approach the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, which will be celebrated from 1950 to 2025.

Son recognized the minister’s visit as pivotal in strengthening the Vietnam-Hungary partnership, underscoring Vietnam’s commitment to foster extensive collaboration with Hungary, its first comprehensive partner in Central and Eastern Europe. Additionally, he urged the Hungarian government to continue supporting the Vietnamese community, facilitating their stable integration and contributions to Hungary’s development.

Szijjarto Peter expressed admiration for Vietnam’s socio-economic advancement and international integration achievements, affirming Hungary’s intention to bolster ties with Vietnam as a key partner in Southeast Asia. Both officials agreed that the longstanding friendship and cooperation in various domains have flourished over the past 75 years, particularly in politics, trade, investment, and culture.

Hungary ranks as a major trade partner for Vietnam in Central and Eastern Europe, with Vietnam viewed as a promising market for Hungary in Asia. Despite global economic challenges, bilateral trade has remained robust, averaging around 1 billion USD annually. The discussions acknowledged significant potential to expand this cooperation further through increased high-level exchanges and support at multilateral forums.

Both parties agreed to maximize the benefits of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) alongside facilitating mutual market access for agricultural and aquatic products. They encouraged Hungarian investment in sectors such as pharmaceuticals and water management, which align with Vietnam’s needs and Hungary’s strengths. Further, the speed-up of the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) was highlighted, alongside enhanced collaboration in education, nuclear power training, and climate change initiatives.

The discussions also covered plans to negotiate a citizens’ readmission agreement to strengthen labor cooperation. Moreover, arrangements were proposed for the upcoming 10th session of the Vietnam-Hungary Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation. On regional and international matters, including the situations in the East Sea and Ukraine, both nations emphasized the need for peaceful resolutions in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.
